A former university student was apprehended by police officers on Monday after he was reported to the ringleader of a gang that has been robbing M-Pesa shops in Machakos, Nakuru, Kakamega and Kitale.
Nixon Kipkoech, who dropped out at the third year, was arrested in Mwanzo Estate in Eldoret.
According to Eldoret West police boss Samuel Mutunga, Kipkoech had earlier been charged and released on bond but he went back to his criminal activities.
"They use mobile phones numbers and stolen IDs to steal cash from the shops. We have been after them," Mutunga said.
Two women who were reported to be part of the gang escaped, however, police officers launched an operation to nab them.
The arrest came two months after police officers in the area arrested members of another gang involved in similar thefts.
