President Uhuru Kenyatta to Meet Raila Odinga During 2017 Madaraka Day Celebrations

President Uhuru Kenyatta is on Thursday set to come face to face with National Supper Alliance (NASA) flag bearer Raila Odinga.

The two will meet when they join Kenyans to celebrate this year's Madaraka Day which will be held at the Ruring'u Stadium in Nyeri.

Odinga on Wednesday confirmed that he would attend the event which will be presided over by President Kenyatta.

Speaking to the press at the Orange House, the Opposition chief affirmed the importance of the event which is celebrated every once a year.

He insisted that he would be present with hundreds of other Kenyans and leaders to mark the Day which will be the last national holiday before the August 8 General Election.

“Madaraka Day is a very important day in our political calendar and we celebrate it whenever and wherever we are. Tomorrow we are going to celebrate it in Nyeri with all Kenyans,” he stated.

In a rare show of unity, Odinga welcomed the unveiling of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) which was graced by President Kenyatta on Tuesday morning.

He further agreed with the Head of State that suspects found vandalising the SGR should be severely punished.

Odinga, however, advised that the punishment should be meted out following the due process of law.

Earlier, Kenyatta had warned that he was ready to bring back the death penalty for suspects who would be found guilty of destroying public property which he said amounts to economic sabotage.
