West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin's Mother Dies at Eldoret Hospital After Battle with Cancer

The family of West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin was on Monday left after his mother succumbed to cancer.

Speaking to a local daily, Governor Kachapin stated that his mother Eunice Ngorekou, 77, succumbed to cancer at an Eldoret hospital.

Kachapin said that his mother had been battling the condition and had been hospitalised for a while at the hospital.

Kachapin’s sister said the family was saddened by the news of her passing but did not divulge further details.

"We are sad because our mother was our pillar," said the Governor's sister.

Leaders from the region including Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Alex Tolgos (Elgeyo Marakwet) and Cleophas Lagat (Nandi) and Trans Nzoia's Patrick Khaemba condoled with the family.

The sad news came two weeks after Governor Khaemba also lost his mother Petronila Nanjala, 85, after a long battle with high blood pressure.
