Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery Threatens to Sue NASA Over Links to Ballot Paper Tender

The saga surrounding the awarding of the ballot printing tender to Dubai firm Al Ghurair has taken a new twist after Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery threatened to sue the National Super Alliance for linking him to the scandal.

CS Nkaissery through his spokesperson Mwenda Njoka, said that the remarks linking him to the tender were false and unsubstantiated.

Njoka stated that Nkaissery was also in no way linked to the Mt Kenya Foundation - a Jubilee lobby aligned to President Uhuru Kenyatta - as alleged by the NASA leadership.

"NASA has consistently made wild unsubstantiated allegations besmirching reputations of innocent Kenyans all for cheap political gain,” said Nkaissery.

The CS refuted claims sensationally linking him to the tender process and stated that he was consulting his lawyers with a view to taking appropriate legal action against the coalition's leaders.

"We wish to categorically state that the CS has nothing to do with IEBC and its procurement...Nkaissery has always focused on setting up systems to ensure the August election is held in an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity," Njoka said.

Njoka urged Kenyans to dismiss Raila Odinga's remarks on the tendering process as baseless and to treat the claims with the contempt they deserve.

Devolution CS Mwangi Kiunjuri in response also castigated NASA for interfering with the election preparations by trying to block the printing of ballot papers.

NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi had on Wednesday sensationally claimed that the firm hired to print the ballot papers had links with the Jubilee administration.

Mudavadi alleged that the directors of the Dubai-based firm had reportedly met with President Kenyatta and cast doubt on the fairness of the process.

He was accompanied by co-principal Moses Wetang'ula and Siaya Senator James Orengo.
