NASA to Field One Candidate for the Bungoma Governor Race- Raila Odinga Declares

The National Super Alliance (NASA) on Saturday announced that they would field one candidate for the Bungoma governor race in the August 8 polls.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga announced that they would decide on who among Orange Democratic Movement (ODM's) Alfred Khangati, Amani National Congress (ANC's) Stephen Muturo and Ford Kenya's Wycliffe Wangamati will unseat incumbent Governor Kenneth Lusaka.

The former Prime Minister stated that it was important for NASA to secure majority representation hence the need for a united front.

Mr Odinga also asked ODM Bungoma Senatorial nominee Bonny Nyongesa to step down for incumbent Senator Moses Wetang'ula.

Nyongesa was assured that he would be appointed in the government after NASA sweeps the August 8 polls.

David Makali of ANC  was also told to step down with the assurance that he would occupy Wetang'ula's seat once NASA forms the government.

"We have very strong candidates in Bungoma and we do not want to make a mistake that will make Lusaka capitalize and sail through," Raila stated.

Lusaka is President Uhuru Kenyatta's point man in the region. he is charged with the duty of popularising the party and heading Uhuru's campaign in Bungoma.

In 2013, Lusaka defeated 4 other candidates by a significant margin; receiving 69% of the votes cast. His closest challenger was Khangati of ODM who received 20% of the votes cast.
