Yala Police Boss Nearly Killed in NASA Chaos as Raila Odinga Campaigns in Siaya

A senior police officer was nearly killed after he was caught up in political chaos during a rally by the National Super Alliance (NASA) in Rarieda, Siaya County.

The Yala OCS, who was part of the security team during the rally, was thrown to the ground and ran over by supporters of NASA after chaos broke out while the Opposition brigade led by Raila Odinga was addressing the crowd.

Police had a difficult time restoring order and several NASA supporters were arrested.

Trouble started when the NASA leader advocated for six-piece voting in favour of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidates.

The rivalry between Siaya County gubernatorial aspirants Nicholas Gumbo (independent candidate) and Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga (ODM) played out, eventually ending up in chaos and running battles between their supporters.

Supporters from both sides hurled stones and attacked each other using clubs, forcing Mr Odinga and the NASA brigade to end the rally prematurely.

Gumbo ditched ODM after he lost the party nominations that he claimed were rigged in favour of Rasanga.
