Snowy Weather Hits Villages in Nyandarua County

Kenyans were on Tuesday treated to a rare scene in Nyahururu, Nyandarua County after the region was hit by snowy weather.

This was after a heavy downpour experienced in some villages of Nyandarua and the neighbouring Laikipia county causing hailstones which blocked several roads.

According to photos circulating on social media, motorists had a rough time navigating through the thick snow with most taking pictures of the uncommon occurrence.

The Kenya Meteorological Department, however, clarified that the event in Nyahururu was a hail storm and not actual snow.

Hailstorms occur when there is abrupt convection and rain clouds form too fast.

This was possible since Nyahururu Meteorological Station had previously recorded the lowest daily minimum temperature of 4.6°C on 27th June.
