Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua to Vie for Presidency in 2022

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has joined the 2022 presidential race.

Mutua on Thursday announced that he was interested in the country's top job once he finishes his term as the Machakos boss.

Speaking while launching his manifesto for the 2017-2022 term, Mutua affirmed that he would run for the Presidency, a race that will also feature Deputy President William Ruto.

During the launch held at the Machakos University, Mutua urged residents to support his re-election bid so that he completes all the projects he started in the last four years.

He added that his aim was to transform the County into a “first world economy” assuring that he would finish all the pending projects within the next two years.

In his manifesto, the Governor who is defending his seat on a Maendeleo Chap Chap ticket outlined several development projects he has planned for the region including the proposed Machakos International Airport.

"We have already held adequate consultations with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority who have surveyed the proposed site and plans are in the pipeline to kick-start development of the facility,” he stated.

Mutua further indicated that plans were also underway for the establishment of a new Machakos City after a case against the project was dismissed by the High Court.

Apart from Mutua, several other leaders have expressed interest in vying for the Presidency during the 2022 General Election.

Among those who have announced candidature for the seat is Ruto, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Meru counterpart Peter Munya.
