President Uhuru Kenyatta Supports SRC for Slashing Salaries of Public Officers

President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed his full support for the recommendations by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to streamline salaries for Public servants.

Speaking during a press briefing at State House, President Kenyatta noted that SRC had his support stating that he was pleased that the Commission made the move.

The Head of State noted that leaders taking a pay-cut was part servant leadership adding that being a leader is about servitude and not a business.

"I want to express my full support to SRC,  I call upon all public servants and state officers to support the SRC recommendations," he stated.

 President Kenyatta noted that the new structure ensured fairness across the pay divide of public and state officers.

He further stated that SRC's recommendations were in line with Jubilee's plan to ensure fair pay across all divides and also reduce the wage bill.

" SRC is in line with what the Jubilee administration has embraced with time, the Jubilee administration swore to guarantee fairness to all public servants," President Kenyatta stated.

On Monday SRC announced a new pay structure where the President will now take home Sh1,443,750 down from Sh1.65 Million with the deputy president earning Sh1.2 Million down from Sh1.4 Milllion.

Governors' salaries were also slashed to Sh924,000 from Sh1.06 Million while the county deputies will get Sh621,250 down from Sh701,441.

Senators, Members of Parliament (MPs) and Women Representatives will all now take home Sh621,250 as opposed to the Sh710,000 they have been earning.

Senate and National Assembly Speakers will earn Sh1.15 Million, a drop from Sh1.32 Million as their deputies take home Sh924,000 down from Sh1.056 Million.

Speakers at the County Assemblies as well as County Assembly Clerks will now get paid Sh259,875 down from Sh350,000.

The salary for Members of County Assemblies has also been reduced to a Sh144,375 gross salary, a significant reduction from Sh165,000.

Cabinet Secretaries, the Attorney General and the Chief of Defence Forces will now receive Sh924,000 down from Sh1.056 Million.
