President Uhuru Kenyatta has declared that once re-elected to office, his administration will embark on a crackdown that will see corrupt leaders including Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi thrown behind bars.
Uhuru issued the warning on Monday at Ganze Trading Centre in Kilifi County where he stated that his government would jail leaders who had stolen public funds.
“If we are re-elected in August, there are some governors who stole public funds and we shall arrest them and your governor is one of them,” he stated.
The Head of State was accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto on a campaign tour of Tana River, Kilifi and Lamu Counties where they accused NASA leaders of using tribal politics to divide the country.
The president also announced the formation of four sub-counties — Chonyi and Kauma in Kilifi County and Kinango and Samburu in Kwale — adding that officers would be posted there immediately.
Ruto criticised NASA’s plan to implement the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) terming it as a way of diving Kenyans along tribal lines.
“This country is not ready to go back to cases but forge ahead,” he stated.
Meanwhile, DP Ruto skipped the presidential running mates debate citing lack of enough consultation between his team and organisers of the event.
