Peter Kenneth Rejects President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Call to Support Mike Sonko

Independent candidate for Nairobi governorship Peter Kenneth has rejected President Uhuru Kenyatta’s call to drop his bid in favour of Jubilee’s Mike Sonko.

While campaigning in Karen, Kenneth maintained that he was the best choice for Nairobi bashing incumbent Governor Evans Kidero as a consistent loser and describing Sonko as an unmitigated disaster.

He expressed displeasure in the president's sentiments warning that Uhuru should not interfere with the county politics but should let the people decide the leaders they want.

"As the party leader, he is allowed to carry his candidates around...but then governorship is not about party prestige...it is about service delivery to the people," Kenneth stated.

Vowing not to support Sonko, Kenneth explained that the Nairobi senator had failed during his term and should not be elected again.

"I have walked all through and seen the troubles Nairobians are facing. It is evident that even Sonko cannot be a solution to these problems," he said.

However, Kenneth agreed with the president on the point that Kidero had failed the city.

"One thing I am happy about is that even Uhuru has accepted that Kidero is a failure," he said while campaigning in Karen.

Last week, during campaigns in Nairobi, Uhuru had asked Kenneth to abandon his ambitions for the gubernatorial seat and support Sonko.

"It is time to abandon your bid and support the winning team of Sonko-Igathe," the President urged during a rally in Nairobi on Friday.
