Former Secretary of State John Kerry Advises NASA to Challenge Elections Where they Have Evidence

Former US Secretary of State John Kerry has advised the National Super Alliance (NASA) to use the legitimate process when challenging the election results.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Kerry, who is leading the Kenya Elections Observers Group, confirmed that he had met with NASA leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday where he listened to his concerns and urged him to follow the right process in lodging the complaints.

“We call on all candidates to work within the rule of law to challenge these elections where they have evidence,” he stated.

The US leader explained that the observers do not support any candidate or party, noting that their role in the country was to ensure that elections are free and fair.

Mr Kerry added that the group had observed minor variances which did not affect the larger credibility of the process.

He lauded the IEBC for including the party agents in the election process both during the voting and counting of votes.

“In one polling station, I saw a woman (IEBC official ) calling everybody to witness her feeding the results in the computer,” Kerry explained.

The former US Secretary of State condemned Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s earlier comment where he had asked Kenyans to remain calm but to be ready for mass action.

“Kenyans should find "strength & resolve", as the IEBC did after Chris Msando's murder, to go back to work,” he stated.

He further stated that if the IEBC process was to be followed to the end, it would give confidence to the outcome.
