Outgoing Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero Concedes Defeat to Mike Sonko During Inauguration

Outgoing Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has conceded defeat to Mike Sonko who beat him for the governor seat during the August elections.

Speaking during Sonko’s inauguration on Monday morning at Uhuru park, Kidero abandoned his earlier call for a vote recount and wished the new governor well during his tenure.

“I promised a smooth transition and I have no problem referring to Mike Sonko as my Governor,” he stated.

He added that his term as the first governor of Nairobi was hard and acknowledged that he had accepted the will of the people.

“I acknowledge that leaders are chosen by God,” he proclaimed.

Touching on the differences he had with Sonko, Kidero stated that they fought each other because of the love they both have for Nairobi City.

The outgoing Governor offered to support Sonko, vowing to be available for consultations when needed.

Kidero, however, warned Sonko of the tough times when he would be discouraged and distracted from fulfilling his vision for the city.

President Uhuru Kenyatta lauded Kidero for conceding defeat to Sonko describing him as a leader who cared for the interest of the nation.

"Amefanya campaigns na akakubali kwamba Mike sonko ndiye ameshinda. Akamkabidhi usukani kwa roho safi (He has done his campaigns and acknowledged that Sonko is the winner. He has handed over power with a clean heart)" Uhuru opined.

On his part, Sonko promised better services for Nairobians adding that corrupt cartels were to blame for poor service delivery.
