8 Politicians who had Won their Seats with over 90 Percent of the Total Votes

In the just concluded elections, there were politicians who received massive support from the electorate that translated to an unquestionable victory with more than 90 percent of the votes.

Kenyans.co.ke has compiled a list of the politicians who had landslide victories in the respective elections.

1. James Orengo- Siaya Senator- Elect 

The Orange Democratic Movement politician defended his seat by garnering 98.4 percent of the total votes in Siaya.

Mr Orengo received the highest percentage points in the election.

He hardly conducted any campaigns during the elections as he was representing National Super Alliance (NASA) in the court cases against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

His closest competitor, Jubilee’s Jacob Oluoch garnered only 6,236 votes.

2. Faith GitauNyandarua woman Representative-elect

Faith Gitau won the Nyandarua Women Representative seat with 96.1 percent.

She garnered 274,689 against Ms Monica Mucheke who got 9,321 votes.

3. Paul Chepkwony- Kericho Governor

The Jubilee incumbent governor won with 95 percent of the votes.

Prof Chepkwony garnered 286,754 against Mr Jonah Keter of Kanu, who had 14,287 votes.

During his first term, he survived an impeachment motion by MCAs when the Senate overturned the motion.

4. Gathoni wa Muchomba-Kiambu woman representative- elect

Gathoni wa Muchomba with 94.2 percent

Garnering 921,696, the radio presenter had the third highest number of votes after President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA’s Raila Odinga.

Her closest challenger, Ms Jane Chege, got 25, 965 votes.

5. Samson Cherargei- Nandi Senator-elect

The Jubilee politician emerged victorious with 248,210 votes which accounted for 92.5 percent of the total.

6. Aaron Cheruyiot- Kericho Senator Elect

Mr Cheruyiot got his landslide victory with 92.4 percent of the total votes.

He got 278,018 votes.

7. Stephen Sang- Nandi governor

Stephen Sang garnering 91.2 percent of the total votes was a display of overwhelming support from the residence.

The 32-year-old former senator unseated the Governor Cleophas Lagat and is the youngest governor in Kenya.

His closest challenger Anderson Sang managed 13,294 votes.

8. Paul Mwangi- Nyandarua Senator-elect

Paul Mwangi who was vying for a jubilee seat received a huge chunk of votes winning the senate seat with 90.5 percent of the votes.

The former planning Cabinet secretary got 260, 153 votes against Ms Beatrice Kamau, who got 14,963 votes.

Others who had huge margins of victory include Nakuru Senator-elect Susan Kihika of Jubilee who got 669,550 votes (89.6 percent), Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana of Wiper Democratic party who got 87.8 percent while Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu of Jubilee got 78.2 per cent of the vote.
