Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi Reacts After Supreme Court Nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta's Win

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has reacted to the Supreme Court's nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta's win in the August election.

Speaking shortly after the court delivered its ruling, the lawyer asserted that the ruling was not satisfactory in their view.

"We have expressed our view, of course, we are disappointed with the ruling and we think it has no basis in law.

"We have said it in court and we are repeating it that it a political decision that is absolutely devoid of legal reasoning," Ahmednasir accused.

The clearly agitated lawyer emphasised that the Judges had not considered the legal matters and have only followed political reasons.

He further cited the dissenting ruling delivered by Justice Njoki Ndung'u as having been accurate.

"The point made by Justice Njoki that since nobody has disputed the voters' expression of will in the polling station and those figures are know from Form 34A, what else is left after that? Absolutely nothing.

"The majority (Judges) have made a political decision to ensure that our client is not sworn in as President as the people of Kenya demanded," the lawyer told reporters.

Ahmednasir revealed that the President had full confidence in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ability to conduct the repeat election.

He added that the move for a repeat election was unnecessary, however, the President was ready to follow the judgement given by the highest court in the land.
