Raila Announces His Proposed Date for Repeat Presidential Election

National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has announced that he would like the repeat presidential election to be held on either October 24 or October 31.

Mr Odinga has maintained that the October 17 date given by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was not consultative.

In contradiction to the statement by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, the Opposition leader has asserted that the National exams, scheduled on his proposed dates, can be postponed.

Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday, the Opposition leader told journalists that the election of the president should be held in higher regard than the National Examinations.

"The exam can be pushed by two weeks, they (the students) won't die. There is no reason why you can't delay the exams. They are not more important than the election of the president of Kenya," the Former Prime Minister dismissed.

NASA Co-Principal Moses Wetangula went on to cast aspersions on the coincidence in which the IEBC announced the exact date Dr Matiang'i had recommended.

"Matiang'i says in the morning that he wants the election on the 17 and in the afternoon the IEBC says the election will be on the 17, I'm sure you can add it up and know who is standing behind the curtain and pressing the buttons," the Bungoma Senator posed.

Dr Matiang'i on Monday announced that the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination will be held from October 23rd to November 29th.

He further stated that the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations would take place between November 1st to 3rd, adding that he had written to the IEBC expressing his concern over the interruption of these dates.
