Wiper MPs Agree to Give Raila Sh500,000 Each

Members of Parliament (MPs) elected on a Wiper Party ticket have been directed to part with Sh500,000 each to fund campaigns for NASA leader Raila Odinga.

Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze and Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, who were re-elected on the Wiper ticket, will pay Sh500,000 while new MPs will pay Sh200,000.

"The MPs themselves agreed on the amount to be contributed to the national campaign kitty. We all agreed that the newcomers contribute a minimum of Sh200,000 while those who have been there will contribute Sh500,000 or more," a source within the party reiterated.

Having garnered 21 parliamentary slots, the MPs are likely to raise about Sh10 Million for the NASA presidential campaigns.

Party officials have conveyed that the funds will go toward conducting spirited campaigns in areas where the Opposition coalition performed poorly.

MPs from the other NASA affiliated parties - ODM, (AAmani National CongressNC), Ford Kenya, and Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) - will also raise funds for the campaigns.

ODM chairman and Suba South MP John Mbadi on Thursday confirmed that some of the legislators from his party had already pledged over Sh1 Million.

The Chairman also conveyed that the party members were committed to ensuring their candidate won as this would be his final attempt at the Presidency.

"During last month's elections, everyone was busy campaigning for themselves. But now, the concentration is on the presidential election. We'll retain our technical and strategy teams," Mbadi stated.
