Mike Sonko Clashes With Leaders at Uhuru Kenyatta's State House Meeting

Ukambani leaders allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party on Monday clashed at State House over who should lead Uhuru's campaign in the region.

The differences between the leaders emerged over last week's endorsement of Peter Muthoka as head of President Kenyatta's campaigns in Ukambani.

The Ukambani leaders lashed out at each other in front of the President and his Deputy William Ruto calling their colleagues 'political brokers'

Former Mwingi Central legislator Joe Mutambo rose and asked the President to give him audience over a matter he wanted to be addressed in private but Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko quickly told off Mutambo and asked the President to stop engaging in boardroom meetings with some leaders.

Governor Sonko stated that engaging in private meetings would not help the Head of State. He insisted that leaders should desist from such meetings and focus on campaigning at the grass roots.

"I want to say here that there should be no meeting to bring people together over issues we can resolve as Kamba leaders. We either unite to deliver the votes or fail in our plans," Sonko stated.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua increased the heat in the room after he urged the President to stop engaging brokers but instead deal with the people through their elected leaders.

The Machakos Governor accused some of the individuals who claimed to be campaigning for the President as being masqueraders who did not have a political following in Ukambani.

The leaders, however, eventually agreed to embark on grass root campaigns to ensure that the Head of State manages to garner more votes from the perceived Opposition stronghold.
