Senator James Orengo's Urgent Message to John Kerry

Siaya County Senator James Orengo has called on former US Secretary of State John Kerry to speak up on the upcoming Kenyan election following the Supreme Court's nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta's win and misconduct of the electoral body.

In response to calls from the European Union (EU) observer mission for a probe into IEBC officials, Mr Orengo stated: "The silence from John Kerry after the determination of the Supreme Court and exposure of electoral fraud in IEBC is devastating. Speak now!"

Marietje Schaake, Chief Observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission, had earlier called for thorough investigations of alleged electoral offences in order to promote prosecutions where warranted, including of IEBC staff.

Observer missions had come under fire for focusing only on the 'cosmetic aspects' of the  August 8th election, rubber-stamping an election that was later nullified by the Justice David Maraga-led Supreme Court of Kenya.

Mr Orengo led the National Super Alliance (NASA) legal team that secured the annulment of the August 8th election.

The coalition has announced that they will not take part in the elections scheduled for October 17th unless changes are made at the electoral body.

They have called for the resignation and prosecution of five secretariat officials led by Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba.

Also on their list of demands is a transparent result transmission system and the live beaming of declaration of results at the 290 Constituency Tallying centres.

They resolved not to conduct any casual or boardroom meetings with the electoral body, stating that all further engagements would be "open structured national stakeholder dialogues" with resolutions shared with the public.
