Opposition Leader Raila Odinga Gives New Instruction on Anti-IEBC Demos

National Super Alliance (NASA) Leader Raila Odinga on Saturday issued new instructions to his supporters urging them to reject violence and ensure property is not destroyed during tomorrow and future anti-IEBC demonstrations.

Speaking on a video link to a group of church leaders at the St Stephen's ACK Kisumu, Mr Odinga stated that it was wrong to light bonfires on roads and disrupt public transport and other essential services during the anti-IEBC Protests.

''I beseech our people with all kindness and humility to desist from acts of hooliganism that may undermine the tenets of democracy that we are fighting for," Odinga stated.

He also called on Church Leaders to spread the message of peace and unity among Kenyans.

''I appeal to church leaders to help us nurture the young generation and bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord, without putting them to wrath.

"When I was minister for Roads I influenced the tarmacking of the major highways in the town and it would defy logic for our children to light bonfires on them,'' he stated.

The NASA candidate spoke a day after a group of youths broke away from those demonstrating in Kisumu town and looted Tumaini Supermarket on Friday.

The angry youth reportedly raided the supermarket after they were denied access to IEBC offices in the county.

The demonstrators also destroyed Kisumu Water and Sanitation Company (KIWASCO) water lines, affecting water supply to estates.

Siaya, Homa Bay, Bondo, and Migori regions also had NASA supporters engage in ugly confrontation with the police.

In Homa Bay, a boda-boda operator was shot and wounded by police after the demos turned violent.

Mr Odinga, however, noted that the demonstrations must continue until NASA's demands are met.

The Opposition has been holding protests to push for changes in the Electoral Commission ahead of the repeat presidential election set for October 26th, 2017.
