Raila Given 4 Days to Make Decision About Election

National Super Alliance leader Raila Odinga has been given four days to respond to a petition filed in the High Court to compel him to participate in the repeat presidential election.

On Monday, Justice Chacha Mwita gave the order after a petition was filed by Pokot South Member of Parliament David Pkosing.

Through his lawyer Kibe Muigai, Mr Pkosing told the court that neither Odinga nor his lawyers had filed submissions despite having been served with the court papers.

Earlier in the month, The Jubilee MP filed the case challenging NASA leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka's declaration that there will be no election on October 26th if their demands on electoral reforms are not met.

On Monday however, The Opposition leader maintained his stance that there would be no election if demands for electoral reforms by the NASA are not met, noting that he cannot be compelled to take part in the polls.

"As far as we are concerned IEBC has not responded positively to most of our issues, regarding the notice this is a democratic society I have a freedom of choice; if I choose not to participate in a pre-rigged electoral process, it’s my democratic right and no court can order me not to do so," he declared.

Raila announcement came after President Uhuru Kenyatta revelaed that the NASA leader was set to quit the Presidential race barely two weeks to the repeat election.

Speaking in Mombasa, the Head of State noted that Mr Odinga was not ready for the election and was creating excuses to avoid taking part in the polls.

"Raila will soon announce that he has quit. I don't know the excuse he will give us," Kenyatta stated.

He, however, urged Mr Odinga to step aside if he was not ready and willing to participate in the contest.

" Kenyans are tired they want to move on; if you don't want an election step aside and let Kenya move on," the President explained.
