14 NASA Supporters Arrested After Anti-IEBC Demos

14 people have been arrested following National Super Alliance (NASA) anti-IEBC demonstrations in Homa Bay County on Wednesday.

According to Nyanza Regional Coordinator Wilson Njega, the arrests came after the demonstrators attacked and injured two police officers.

Njenga also stated that protestors went ahead to throw a firearm belonging to one of the officers in a burning kiosk. The firearm was later recovered without a magazine.

“We have arrested 14 people in Homa Bay following Wednesday’s attack on two police officers and confiscation of a firearm which was later destroyed by the youth. They will be charged in court,” Mr Njega stated.

In Kisumu County, 23 people were admitted at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital after they sustained injuries during the protests.

Trouble started when the demonstrators started throwing stones inside Kondele Police Station which led to running battles between demonstrators and police officers.

The officers, however, denied using live bullets on the protesters during the scuffle.

In Nairobi County, protesters were caught on camera allegedly stealing and destroying several properties in the Central Business District (CBD).

Siaya Senator James Orengo announced that the Opposition will hold anti-IEBC demonstrations daily beginning next week.

On Thursday, Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, however, banned all demonstrations in the CBDs of Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa.
