The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has left the choice to participate or withdraw from the October 26 election to NASA leader Raila Odinga.
Commissioner Roselyn Akombe has stated that the decision to vie as a candidate in any election is purely a personal decision, therefore, it is not the commission that makes such a decision for any candidate.
"The issue about Mr Odinga’s withdrawal from the repeat poll cannot be solved by the electoral commission," Dr Akombe stated.

She added that the uncertainty around the Opposition leader's candidature is a political issue.
"It would be impossible for us to solve the political mess created by the politicians. We can only offer technical solutions and not political ones," the Commissioner clarified.
Dr Akombe further urged the politicians to stop dragging IEBC into their issues and instead seat together and find a way forward.
The electoral body is currently conducting a survey of NASA strongholds to determine the impact of the Opposition's call for "No Reforms, No Elections".
"We will be forced to collect public views and consult internally to determine whether there will be elections or no elections," Dr Akombe told reporters while at Bondo constituency.

Meanwhile, former Kilome MP Harun Mwau has taken the commission to court seeking to have the repeat presidential election cancelled.

Mr Mwau claims that the IEBC is intending to breach provisions of the Constitution and is, therefore, seeking an injunction against the electoral body.
