Raila Explains How He was Detained at Jimmy Wanjigi's House

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has disclosed details of how he was detained at billionaire Jimmy Wanjigi's home on Tuesday night.

Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday, Mr Odinga narrated the incident that led to police instructing him not to leave the premises until he was officially released.

According to the NASA leader, he was sharing a conversation with the billionaire's father, Mzee Maina Wanjigi, when police officers called him aside.

"I was seated with Mzee and we were having a wonderful chat when the police boss leading the search called me and we retreated to a room. I called a lawyer who was with me.

"At that point, they told me that I was not allowed to leave this compound. I told him that in those old days at least they were decent enough to come with a court order saying that you have been detained or you are under house arrest," Mr Odinga explained.

The NASA leader went on to explain that the officer insisted that he could not leave the premises as it would amount to interfering with police investigations at a crime scene.

"After two hours they came back and told me that I had to leave for them to conduct their investigations. I refused and told them that I would not assist them in breaking the law," the Opposition Chief narrated.

He elaborated that the court order issued on Tuesday had blocked the police from conducting the investigations, therefore, they were in breach of the law by prolonging the search.

Mr Odinga had visited the Muthaiga residence after Siaya Senator James Orengo was denied access to serve court papers.

"After lawyer James Orengo was denied access to the premises I decided to come, myself, and thought maybe by accident I would be allowed access.

"I went upstairs to the bedroom where I found a bee-hive of activities and police under the bed conducting a search," Odinga reported.
