IEBC Speaks on Arrest of Top Officials

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has denied claims that some of its top officials were subjected to "office arrest" on Tuesday morning.

The reports had indicated that the officials had been restrained at the Anniversary Towers offices after leaking information to the Opposition.

IEBC officials were reportedly accused of having shared "raw data" from the October 26 presidential poll with National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga.

The false reports would lead to more speculation around Mr Odinga's expected press statement on the declaration of Uhuru Kenyatta as President-elect.

The speculative reports had indicated that the NASA leader would disclose details of how Kenyans voted during the Tuesday press statement.

Mr Odinga was scheduled to make a major announcement on Monday but cancelled it moments before the IEBC Chairman declared the results.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed later declared that the announcement would be made on Tuesday at 10 am.

However, NASA CEO Norman Magaya countered the proclamation clarifying that the coalition had only called for a parliamentary group meeting at the Wiper Party headquarters.

Meanwhile, the IEBC allowed various stakeholders to access the servers that were used to transmit and store data for the October 26 presidential election.

Presidential candidates, their agents and international observers were granted access to the data transmitted by Kenya Integrated Electoral Management System (KIEMS) kits from election day to when the results were declared.
