Celebrations in NASA Zone After Uhuru's Victory

President Uhuru Kenyatta's October 26 election victory was upheld on Monday and celebrations kicked off in some sections of Kakamega which is considered an opposition stronghold.

Some residents went to the streets chanting songs of victory in an area which is largely a National Super Alliance (NASA) zone.

Moments after Chief Justice David Maraga threw out the petitions filed against the Head of State and declared him the legitimate winner, supporters of Jubilee took to the streets to express their joy.

In Nyeri, residents marched to the streets singing songs of victory as they hailed Kenyatta.

In Nairobi's CBD, a group of Jubilee supporters danced outside the Supreme Court with a section of leaders.

Majority leader Aden Duale hailed the ruling noting the Supreme Court had demonstrated its independence by delivering two historical rulings.

He expressed satisfaction with how the process was conducted and urged the country to move forward.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen also expressed his delight at the ruling stating that it was time to move on.

While delivering a summary of the unanimous decision, Maraga, while flanked by five other judges, stated that the petitions were lacking in merit.

“The court has unanimously determined that the petitions are not merited and the final orders are that the petition by John Harun Mwau versus the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and two others as consolidated is hereby dismissed.

“The petition by Njonjo Mue and another versus the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and three others as consolidated is also hereby dismissed. As a consequence, the presidential election of October 26 is hereby upheld as is the election of Uhuru Kenyatta,” Maraga communicated.
