Preparations in Kisumu Ahead of Uhuru's Swearing-in

Kisumu County Commissioner Pauline Dola and her counterparts from Kericho and Nandi counties have been holding meetings in Muhoroni constituency ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta's inauguration ceremony.

The three are spearheading a committee charged with ensuring security for the locals in the three volatile counties as President Kenyatta takes the oath for his second term in office.

Through a statement, the security chiefs have warned that stern action will be taken against those who may instigate violence against locals and their businesses.

Ms Dola added that the cross-county security team will also utilize village elders, public barazas and cross-border peace committees to ensure no violence erupts in the areas during the national event.

Kericho county commissioner Mukhtar Abdi stated that the joint meetings would offer a long-lasting solution for the cross-border wars that have been witnessed in the region in the past.

He added that the cattle rustling witnessed in the past will also be quelled as the community leaders will be working together.

"We are going to deal with criminals decisively and firmly and they will not be given a chance to break the law," Mr Abdi warned.

The conflict was sparked following an incident on October 26 where NASA supporters attacked a polling station in Soin Sigowet, Kericho.

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o has issued a ban on protests within the county directing NASA supporters to take demos to Nairobi.

Prof. Nyongo's statement was not received well by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who has since demanded an apology from the Kisumu governor.
