Raila Odinga Receives Heroic Welcome in Kisumu

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga on Friday evening arrived in Kisumu County and received a heroic welcome that befits a President.

Governor Anyang' Nyong'o was at the Kisumu International Airport to welcome the Opposition chief who touched down at 6:30 p.m, just as he would have been required to do had it been a visit by the Head of State.

Nyatiti traditional dancers were at hand to cheer and dance for the NASA leader who on Tuesday declared he would be sworn in as the people's President on Jamhuri Day.

The dancers' troop entertained the former Prime Minister for a few minutes amid shouts of "Baba! Baba!" from the crowd that had turned up to receive him. Others yelled that they support the leader fully.

Security had also been reinforced as the leader was expected and were later witnessed clearing the road for Mr Odinga's entourage as the huge crowd surged behind his motorcade.

The NASA leader was in the company of Kisumu West MP Olago Aluoch and the NASA Presidential campaign team led by Bob Madanje and the team went straight to his Opoda home in Bondo.

Sources close to the Opposition leader have conveyed that he had decided to make the trip to spend time with his family as he contemplates his next move.

Mr Madanje has ruled out possibilities of the leader holding political rallies but assured the press that the full details of the trip will be conveyed to the media on Saturday.

The NASA coalition on Friday unveiled the team that will be in charge of the Opposition's secession plan.

Despite the hard stance, President Uhuru Kenyatta assured Opposition supporters that he will be keen to incorporate their leaders into the government.

Earlier in the day, Mama Ida Odinga - Mr Odinga's wife - arrived in the county to attend the burial of former Governor Jack Ranguma's mother in Ahero.
