Accept Uhuru's Offer - Western Kenya Leaders to Raila

Religious leaders from Mumias have called on National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga to accept President Uhuru Kenyatta's offer to engage in dialogue.

The leaders highlighted the need for cohesion in the country, noting that there was a pressing need for inclusivity.

Bishop Joseph Wandera of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), Mumias Diocese, stated: “We need to maintain peace and avoid more conflict as it will divide us even more.

"Our leaders now have to help the church bring all Kenyans from all walks of life, religions and tribes together," he continued.

Bishop Wandera made it clear that it was important for the country's leadership to meet and chart the way forward.

"Let leaders from both camps set aside any selfish interests and start discussing the country's prosperity," he stated.

Following his inauguration on Tuesday, President Kenyatta noted that in spite of their different visions, he was willing to work with leaders from the other side of the divide for the good of the country.

The opposition boss had earlier stated that he was open to engaging in dialogue, but not to negotiate a coalition government as he maintained he does not recognize President Kenyatta's administration.

After President Kenyatta took his oath of office, Mr Odinga announced that he would be sworn in as well on December 12.

It is unclear how exactly this will happen as President Kenyatta is the legal custodian of the instruments of power.
