Uncertainty in NASA over Plan to Swear-In Raila

Tension is high at the National Super Alliance (NASA) over a plan to swear-in Opposition Leader Raila Odinga.

A seven-member committee that was named to come up with a suitable method for inaugurating the NASA leader is yet to name its chair over fears of intimidation from the government.

Reports in the Nation indicate that the committee was yet to name a chair because of fear that the government would target him/her.

“There is a legitimate fear within the committee that picking one to chair it will invite ridicule and unnecessary attacks from the State, which would derail our work, the Nation reported.

Speaking at Okoa Kenya offices, former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale stated that the coalition had set up an organizing committee whose duties will be to facilitate, guide and coordinate the People’s Assemblies.

“We have put a team in place that will be tasked with guiding, facilitating and coordinating activities of the People’s Assembly at the county level,” Dr Khalwale stated.

The former Kakamega Senator named Dr David Ndii, Judy Sijeni, Hamid Kibwana, Mutaha Kangu, Dr Oduor Ongwen, Koitalet Ole Kina and Peter Mathuki.

The committee was charged with setting up an oversight national secretariat that would be the center of the activities of the people’s assembly and produce a roadmap towards the achievements that would lead to a free and fair election.

Meanwhile, one of the committee members Dr Ndii was on Sunday night arrested at Leopard Beach Hotel in Kwale County and was taken to Diani Police Station.

It is still unclear why the NASA strategist was arrested.
