Raila Junior Jumps to Defence of NTV's Larry Madowo

NTV journalist Larry Madowo was on Tuesday summoned by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to record a statement over an interview with opposition Chief Strategist David Ndii.

According to the letter, Larry was expected to avail himself to record a statement at the DCI headquarters in Nairobi.

In response to the matter, Raila Odinga Junior condemned this incident terming it an attack on press freedom and a threat to democracy.

"This is not just a blatant attack on press freedom but a threat to democracy and a violation of individual liberty," wrote Odinga junior on one of his social media pages.[caption caption="Snippet of Raila Jr's Post"][/caption]

Ndii was arrested on Sunday evening at Leopard Beach Hotel in Kwale County and was taken to Diani Police Station.

According to his wife, around seven men came to arrest him and drove away. He was later transferred to Nairobi where he was questioned at the DCI headquarters.

Members of the National Super Alliance (NASA) legal team were on Monday morning blocked from accessing the offices where Ndii was detained.

The lawyers, led by Siaya Senator James Orengo, attempted to persuade the officers to allow them in but the attempts were futile.

Ndii was later released after Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko issued the directive.

Through its social media account, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) directed the DCI to free Dr Ndii on bond.
