Governor Wycliffe Oparanya's Remarks on Joining Jubilee

  • Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya on Tuesday announced that he had not joined President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee party as alleged.

Speaking in Lugari, Governor Oparanya also dismissed claims that he was in talks with Deputy President William Ruto regarding the 2022 presidential race.

He explained that he was firmly in the National Super Alliance (NASA) adding that those joining President Kenyatta's team are election losers searching for positions in government.

"I have a job. What would I be going to Jubilee to do?

"Those saying I am in Jubilee are idlers who think we are still in the season of political campaigns," the Governor stated.

He was accompanied by Lugari MP Ayub Savula, who has been a subject of discussion after he announced that the Amani National Congress (ANC) was considering its position in NASA.

During the event, Mr Savula explained that he was not working with Jubilee adding that his tough stand was aimed at ensuring equality in the coalition.

Meanwhile, Oparanya is serving his last term as Governor with reports indicating that he could vie for the Presidency in 2022.

While campaigning for his second term, Oparanya stated that: "What other seat can I go for after serving as governor? I have told Raila Odinga that he is remaining with one bullet and he must aim properly to ensure he finds the target because, in 2022, I will try my luck," he was quoted by the Star.

If he vies in 2022, Oparanya will square it out with other NASA leaders; Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula who have also expressed their interest in the seat.
