NASA's New Announcement on Raila's Swearing-in Venue

A new twist has emerged on Opposition Leader Raila Odinga's swearing-in venue after a section of National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders on Wednesday denied claims that letters had been sent to 11 County Governments requesting them to provide space for the inauguration.

Minority Chief Whip in the National Assembly Junet Mohammed stated that the Opposition had not drafted any requests and accused Jubilee of drafting the letters to taint NASA's image.

“We have seen all such letters but that is not our work.

“We have neither written nor are we shopping around for the swearing-in venue which, by the way, is still on," Junet was quoted by the Nation.

He made the remarks following a series of letters that had emerged indicating that NASA was shopping for Mr Odinga's inauguration venue.

The 11 letters were addressed to: Governors Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu), Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Okoth Obado (Migori), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Wilber Ottichilo (Vihiga), Amason Kingi (Kilifi), Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Cornel Rasanga (Siaya).

"Your county having passed the People’s Assembly motion, the presidential inauguration team is requesting your office to provide a venue for this high-level event in your county," the letters read in part.

Meanwhile, reports in the Nation indicate that the Opposition could give an update in the next two days regarding its plan for the swearing scheduled for Tuesday next week.

The Opposition coalition on Saturday sent out invitation cards to the event that is scheduled for Jamhuri Day without disclosing the venue for the event.

The digital invitations read: "You are invited. Come witness the swearing-in of the people's President Raila Amollo Odinga on 12th December at 12 noon. Location to be communicated after vetting of RSVP."
