5 Ambassadors Endorse Uhuru's 2nd Term

New ambassadors from five countries on Friday praised and pledged to support President Uhuru Kenyatta during his final term in office.

The new diplomats included; Awere Phibby Otaala (Uganda), Alison Chartres (Australia), Denys Toscano (Ecuador), Myint Swe (Myanmar) and Wilhelm von Trott (the Sovereign Military Order of Malta).

They congratulated the President on his peaceful campaigns during the prolonged electioneering period and also applauded the Head of State for his commitment to the rule of law.

The new Ugandan envoy explained that her country looks to Kenya as its main ally noting that: “When Kenya is not happy, Uganda will not be happy.”

“On behalf of the President and people of Uganda, I would like to congratulate you on your peaceful campaign which the whole world has been watching,” Ms Otaala stated.

Ms Chatres, on her part, congratulated President Kenyatta on his victory for a second term in office adding that her nation appreciated his respect for the rule of law.

She noted that Australia was proud of the big role Kenya has played in the war against terror and vowed to work hard to boost the bilateral ties between Kenya and Australia.

“We applaud your clear commitment to the rule of law and also your commitment to make devolution work,” Ms Chatres noted.

President Kenyatta welcomed the new diplomats and encouraged them to work hard for the improvement of bilateral relations between Kenya and their respective countries.

Addressing Ms Otaala, the Head of State urged her to work closely with Kenya in strengthening the East African Community for the sake of prosperity for all the people of the region.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed and Principal Secretary Monica Juma attended the function.
