Police Clash With Protesters In Isiolo Town

Police clashed with bodaboda riders and a section of youth in Isiolo town on Saturday morning.

The group had come out to protest the killing of a motorcycle rider whose body was found in Kiwanjani area.

The angry protesters, who took to the streets on learning of the death, barricaded the Isiolo-Marsabit highway with some stoning vehicles.

The situation escalated quickly as some of the youth started destroying property and looting from members of the public.

Police responded to the chaos and fired in the air in an effort to disperse the demonstrators.

However, a number of vehicles were already stoned and some people were badly beaten up in town before police intervened.

Business was paralysed as traders closed their shops with hawkers being forced to salvage what they could as they fled.

Tension still remained high in the town and parts of the Isiolo market were deserted for some time as traders were afraid the youth would return.

The deceased bodaboda rider was found dead in the morning after his motorcycle was stolen by unknown people.
