Wiper Releases Statement on Kalonzo Replacing Nyenze as MP

The Wiper Democratic Party on Sunday dismissed reports that National Super Alliance (NASA) Principal Kalonzo Musyoka was poised to replace the Late Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze who died last week.

Responding to claims on the Nation that suggested the Wiper leader wanted to join the national seat describing the reports as baseless, unfortunate and demeaning to the opposition leader.

Deputy Secretary-General Peter Mathuki released a statement demanding an apology from the newspaper adding that Mr Musyoka was focussed on the 2022 presidential election.

“Wiper Democratic Party members are all saddened by this article whose purpose is to kill their morale and demean their party leader, Mr Kalonzo Musyoka,” Mr Mathuki said.

The article on the Nation stated that Ukambani leaders are pushing for Mr Musyoka to be in parliament to remain relevant for the next election cycle.

The newspaper further explained that the death of Kitui West MP had increased pressure for the NASA principal to join Parliament.

However, Wiper party has refuted the report terming it as misleading.

“Mr Musyoka does not come from Kitui West, therefore this is a misplaced impression,” Mr Mathuki stated.

Earlier on Saturday, Mr Musyoka was expected to travel back into the country from Germany to attend the burial of the late Kitui West Member of Parliament who died on December 6 2017.

The former National Assembly Minority Leader died at Nairobi Hospital after a long battle with Colon cancer.

However, he postponed his return because doctors handling his ailing wife decided to transfer her to another hospital.

Speaking to the Nation, Wiper Party Executive Director Dr Jared Maaka Siso explained that: “The party leader has deferred coming home to Tuesday. He was supposed to return today but doctors decided to transfer his wife to another hospital."
