I Will Resign If Raila is not Inaugurated in 2 Weeks - ODM MP

Nyando Member of Parliament (MP) Jared Okelo on Monday announced that he will resign in two weeks if Opposition Chief Raila Odinga is not sworn-in.

Mr Okelo while addressing mourners at the funeral of the late radio presenter Agao Patrobas, demanded that his party leader is inaugurated before new year adding that he would resign if the move fails.

The Nyando Legislator noted that he cannot continue with his parliamentary duties if President Uhuru Kenyatta is the Head of State.

"I went into Parliament not to sit in the Opposition benches but to support President Raila Odinga's policies as he discharges his mandate from State House. I had scanned the environment, followed the polls and was confident of a Raila win.

"I can't sit pretty in parliament with people I know connived to snatch Odinga's victory while he languishes out in the cold," Okelo was quoted by the Star.

The MP further noted that the inauguration of Mr Odinga will bring an end to electoral injustice and pave a new way for the country.

"This perennial electoral theft must come to an end for the country to move forward. Delivering electoral justice is the panacea to the ills bedeviling Kenya as a nation. Stealing elections three terms in a row is unacceptable," he stated.

The burial was attended by among others Kisumu Senator Fred Outa, area MP Aduma Owuor and a host of other leaders.

Meanwhile, Mr Odinga on Sunday announced that he will be inaugurated soon adding that nothing will stop him from taking his oath of office.

“Nobody will stop me from lifting the Bible. It is better to stand up for the truth and die while at it, than to die lying down," Odinga was quoted by the Nation.
