US Gives New Statement on Raila’s Planned Swearing In

The United States, through acting secretary of state for African affairs Donald Yamamoto reiterated that there was no need for NASA leader Raila Odinga to form a separate government as it would be unhelpful.

In recent weeks, politicians allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) maintained that they would swear in Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka.

“Forming a separate or parallel government is really unhelpful,” remarked Yamamoto.

Recently during a teleconference with reporters, Yamamoto allegedly praised the NASA leader for his commitment to achieving political reform in Kenya.

“We’ve known the former Prime Minister over the years. He has a great story- the need for political reforms.

“He stands as a model for reform; he is famous for, noted for and respected for reforms,” added Yamamoto.

The Secretary of State for African affairs, however, recounted that President Uhuru Kenyatta had also expressed willingness to bring reforms thus it would be possible to reach an agreement.

He characterized Kenya as one of US’s important countries in Africa thus should demonstrate high standards of democracy.

Attorney General Githu Muigai warned Odinga of swearing himself in stating that his actions would amount to treason.

Last week, Suba South MP John Mbadi was thrown out of the National Assembly for saying that Kenya did not have a president.

His sentiments were not received kindly by speaker Justin Muturi who ordered the legislator to withdraw his statement or walk out.

Mbadi refused to withdraw his remarks saying he would rather withdraw from parliament.
