Jubilee MPs Threaten to Impeach Duale

A section of Jubilee Members of Parliament from the North and South Rift region reportedly met on Thursday to discuss the conduct of Leader of Majority Aden Duale.

According to the Nation, the meeting was convened by Cherangany MP Joshua Kuttuny and brought together 37 lawmakers including Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Kuttuny noted that the MPs were unhappy with Mr Duale and cautioned that an impeachment motion will be drafted if he does not change.

The MP noted that his colleagues were particularly unhappy with the move to de-whip four legislators from the community who won parliamentary committee leadership positions contrary to Jubilee's plan.

“We were trying to put things in order after our members were de-whipped from the committees. The act was unfortunate and MPs have resolved a number of issues, including an impeachment motion against Mr Duale.

“Members raised a lot of issues, including the conduct of Mr Duale. They said if he does not change, they will impeach him,” Kuttuny told the Nation.

Duale while speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, however, stated that "let them proceed".

The former advisor to the President also noted that the legislators at the meeting demanded a meeting with Deputy President William Ruto to sort out the issue of committee membership in Parliament.

Meanwhile, Jubilee Party Chief Whip Benjamin Washiali on Wednesday dismissed three lawmakers allied to the party from parliamentary committees.

In letters seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Washiali stated that MPs Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Alexander Kosgey (Emgwen) and David Bowen (Marakwet East) had been relieved of their duties in their respective parliamentary committees.

Washiali further maintained that the decision was reached due to the legislator's failure to comply with the party’s mandate.

“As per standing order no 176 (2), I hereby discharge the member in reference from the committee of Labour and Social Welfare immediately,” read the letter addressed to Keter.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had directed Jubilee MPs to elect his preferred line-up of chairpersons and deputies of various parliamentary committees.
