5 Family Members Burnt to Death in Migori County

A family of five members died on Saturday night after their house caught fire.

According to Mr Samuel Onjiko who is the Chief of the Location, the house caught fire on Saturday midnight when the five( mother, father and their three children) were sleeping.

The Chief explained that four of the victims died on the spot with the one dying at St. Joseph Omboo hospital while undergoing treatment.

The bodies were taken to Rapcom Hospital mortuary and St Joseph Omboo mission Hospital mortuary.

Police have launched investigations to establish the cause of the fire.

The incident comes only a day after two children died in a night fire in Kisumu County.

Confirming the incident, Kisumu Town Senior Chief Location Willis Onyona, stated that the minors aged 5 and 6 years were burnt to death after a fire broke out in their house in Lower Milimani area.

He explained that the inferno started at 9:30 pm when the two siblings were asleep.

Mr Onyona further noted that the parents of the children were sleeping in a separate house when the fire broke out.

Initial investigations suggested that the incident happened because of an electric fault as a result of illegal power connection to the house.

The bodies of the children were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
