Gideon Moi Opens up on Being Offered Cabinet Position

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Tuesday opened up on whether he was offered a Cabinet position when President Uhuru Kenyatta was naming his nominees on Friday.

Addressing the media outside Parliament Buildings, the Kenya African National Union (KANU) party leader dismissed claims that he had been offered a cabinet slot.

"No, I was not offered a Cabinet Position. I will not take up a cabinet slot if I was offered one. I believe I will serve my people better as Senator," Mr Moi stated.

He further explained that he was not involved in the formation of the new cabinet.

"I was not involved in the formation of Cabinet. I'm like you (referring to the media), I wake up and read the newspapers and hear the news when you do," he added.

The KANU chairman was on Tuesday elected unopposed as the Senate ICT Committee chairperson to be deputized by nominated Senator Halake Abshiro.

"We will deal with the things that were there before. We will fast-track the Cybercrime bill, audit some of the technology being used and figure out why the ICT infrastructure is not benefitting many Kenyans," Mr Moi conveyed.

The Baringo Senator, who has been in the Energy and Transport Committee from 2008 to 2017, stated that he was happy to switch to the ICT committee.

"Change sometimes is not bad and I will bring what I learned from the Energy committee to my new appointment. No politics was involved in my appointment as the ICT chairman," he stated.

There has been drama over the cabinet appointments when on Sunday, Deputy President William Ruto noted that it was the right of the President to bring together a team he wanted to work with and as such, no one should deny him that.

He warned Jubilee Party members against politicising the issue of cabinet nominees and linking it to 2022 adding that the aim of the government now is to deliver its promises to the Kenyan people.
