The Government, through the National Employment Authority, has published a list of 45 private companies that are authorised to place Kenyans in jobs abroad.
The authority's Director General Rael Rotich revealed that the move was aimed at locking out companies that fleece locals.
She published the list in the government publication, MyGov, and stated that it would be updated regularly.

“The public is notified that the list will be updated regularly and are, therefore, advised to check the status of any recruitment agency from our offices,” stated Rotich.
According to Business Daily, Al-Shira Travel Tourism, Overseas Gulf, Al-Jamana Ltd and Pemawa Ltd are some of the companies whose contracts extend to January 2019.
Others are Talent Quest Africa and FSI Worldwide Kenya Ltd while contracts of the rest have the period of accreditation spread between August and December 2018.
In the new regulations, registered agencies must have a physical office and submit quarterly reports to the government on their overseas migrants.
Labour CS Phyllis Kandie also stated that agencies will have to pay a security bond of 500,000 to 1.5 million Kenya shillings for the government to repatriate workers in emergencies.
“The Ministry (of labour) is helping us understand the new regulations and why it is important that we observe them,” stated Suzan Ngosho, who works for Derimel Recruiting Agency, one of the licensed firms.
For a while now, most Kenyans have ended up losing money through unauthorised agencies which offer fake placement or give them jobs that are underpaying.
