President Uhuru Advises Governor Sonko What to do After Polycarp Igathe's Resignation

President Uhuru Kenyatta reportedly sent a message to Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko asking him to concentrate on service delivery after his deputy Polycarp Igathe resigned.

According to The Star, Sonko called the President and briefed him on the resignation of Igathe after which the Head of State urged him not to relent in his quest to make Nairobi a better place.

"Sonko is a personal friend to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto. They talked at length. Uhuru urged Sonko to focus on service delivery,” The Star reported.

Meanwhile, Igathe on Friday issued a notice of resignation from his position as Sonko's deputy effective January 31, 2018.

Through a statement on his Twitter account, the outgoing Nairobi Deputy Governor stated that he had failed to earn the trust of Governor Sonko.

"Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1 pm on 31st Jan 2018. I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive admin and management of the county.

"Without fear, favor or ill will I step down to avoid abusing or betraying my oath of office to Kenyans, Nairobians and my family. Thank you for the encouraging support given to me so far," he stated.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Igathe thanked the Governor for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of Nairobi.

" Serving Kenyans, in Nairobi under your leadership, has been a high honor and distinct privilege. I am grateful to Nairobians and yourself for giving me the opportunity to serve. Thank you, and please accept my highest personal regards," the statement read in part.
