Students Excited After Matiang'i Buys Them 100K Lunch

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Wednesday paid a visit to Mama Ngina Girls High School in Mombasa where he surprised students with a Sh100,000 token for lunch.

The students, excited by Matiangi's announcement, screamed joyously as he addressed them.

Matiang'i also gave 20 computers to the 30-year old school, as part of the Computers For Schools Programme.

He further met Leonidah Kanini, a 14-year old Form One student at the school who had contemplated suicide prior to her admission.

Despite scoring 373 marks and emerging the best student in Kalimakoi Primary School in Makueni, Kanini had been unable to join Form One due to financial constraints.

She underwent counselling at Makindu Sub-County Hospital after she started having suicidal thoughts because of her situation.

Kanini received support from well-wishers after her story was picked up by a section of the media and joined Form One at Mama Ngina on Tuesday.

Matiang'i assured her that she would be taken care of, stating: "Don't bother about school fees. Concentrate on your education. We'll cater for your needs."

During his visit, the CS divulged that plans to relocate the school from Kizingo to a 10-acre piece of land in Shimo la Tewa, Shanzu, were complete.

While revealing that Sh100 Million had already been set aside for the project, Matiang'i promised that President Uhuru Kenyatta would lay the foundation stone at the new site within the next month.
