During the tenure of Former President Mzee Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, a renowned businessman from Kiambu county made a visit to State House and scared the then Head of State.
Kiarie wa Mbugua was a famous businessman who majored in coffee farming, however, to many other people, he was known as Kiarie wa Njoki and had unscrupulous businesses which were characterized by stealing.
The government under Mzee Moi made several attempts to close in on the businessman, and this prompted Mr Kiarie to secure a meeting with the President.
He planned to meet the President and explain his innocence to quell the clash with the KANU regime.
He armed himself with a briefcase with land titles and logbooks to prove all he owned was legally acquired.

However, in the case was also his licensed gun, a Ceska pistol.
On arrival, the State House security did not bother to screen him, and he proceeded to meet the President at his office together with his cargo.
Left with the President in the room alone, the businessman pulled out his bundle of documents together with a pistol which he carefully placed on the table.
According to a former Commissioner of Police Bernard Hinga (now dead), the President almost choked on his coffee After finding himself all alone in a room with an armed man.
Moi reportedly concluded the meeting in a hurry and promised the businessman he would have the police stop harassing him.
