Retired President Moi Demands Apology from Newspaper

Retired President Daniel Moi is demanding an apology from the Daily Nation newspaper, over what he terms as misleading and inaccurate reporting.

Moi's order follows a publication by the local daily which reported that he held a six-hour meeting with about 70 Kalenjin elders at his Kabarak home, to settle a tussle between his son Gideon Moi and Deputy President William Ruto.

“We want to listen to one leader but not to be seen as a wrangling community,” Nation quoted one of the elders in the alleged meeting.

Moi dismissed the report stating: "I did not meet Kalenjin elders last Monday at my Kabarak home as claimed by today's Daily Nation newspaper. The day I am purported to have hosted the elders I was in Nairobi".

"Journalists must maintain code of ethics of upholding the truth and verifying information. The Daily Nation must apologize for this fabrication," Moi was quoted by the Standard.

An earlier report by The Star Newspaper claimed that DP Ruto insulted Baringo Senator Gideon Moi in his venacular language asserting that he (Moi) was not circumcised.

Ruto, however, distanced himself from the allegations saying: “My statements have never been about trivialities like circumcision but as always the STAR is at it. I understand sales matter. 'Isorait!".
