David Rudisha Battles With 92-year-old Woman in Court

Olympic 800M Champion David Rudisha has taken an elderly woman to court over the ownership of a 5.3 acres piece of land in Kilgoris, Narok County.

Seeking to have the woman evicted from the plot, the athlete has claimed that 92-year-old Nashuru Muriango sold the land to him in 2015.

Ms Muriango, however, alleges that she neither sold nor received any payment for the land from Rudisha and has since refused to vacate the property.

Testifying before the Narok Land and Environment Court, the granny remained adamant that the land was hers and she had instructed her children on her wishes.

"I have not sold my land to anybody. I live there and only death will make me leave the land, and I have instructed my children that I will be buried there," Ms Muriango told Justice Kullow Mohamed.

Arguing on behalf of the athlete, lawyer Philemon Ochuang’i told the court that transactions on the property had taken place with the woman's grandson.

According to Rudisha, his brother Benson Rudisha and the granny’s grandson, Franklin Naiguran, facilitated the sale terms and agreement.

The Rudishas claimed to have deposited Sh1.3 Million in an account belonging to Mr Naiguran’s wife before an agreement prepared by Benjamin Musyoki, a clerk at Jumba and Company Advocates was signed by Benson in Kilgoris Town.

Mr Musyoki, Mr Naiguran and his wife Silvia Naiguran are facing criminal charges of fraud in a case filed separately concerning the same matter.

Justice Kullow adjourned the hearing ordering that Mr Musyoki should be summoned to explain who signed the said agreement after the woman’s lawyers argued it was fraudulent.

The case will be heard on March 17.
