Kenyans were on Thursday involved in heated discussions concerning the trending topics of the day including the sudden demise of Yvonne Wamalwa, the Late Kijana Wamalwa's widow.

Under the topics "Yvonne Wamalwa", "Nanyuki" and "Lee Funeral Home", many social media users shared their condolence messages while a section of the netizens politicised the sensitive topic.

A family source disclosed that Yvonne passed away on Thursday while visiting her sister in Nanyuki. Her body would later be transferred to the Lee Funeral Home as the family prepared to lay her to rest.

The former VP's wife was a Masters graduate and had served with the Kenyan Embassy before her demise. Deputy President William Ruto was among other leaders who mourned the departed.

"We mourn with the family and friends of Yvonne Wamalwa, widow of former Vice President Kijana Wamalwa. She served her country with passion, commitment and dedication during her stint at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, United Nations and later as Kenya’s diplomat to Australia.

"A philanthropist, she took in orphans and the less privileged under her wing and gave their lives new meaning. Mrs Wamalwa was a strong woman, who braved adversity to raise a young family, with little time to grieve her husband.

"We pray that God gives her loved ones the grace to bear this loss. Rest in peace," DP Ruto stated in a series of tweets.
