Why Uhuru Should not Stop Raila's Inauguration-Francis Atwoli

Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) secretary general Francis Atwoli on Sunday explained why President Uhuru Kenyatta should not stop National Super Alliance (NASA) from swearing in Raila Odinga as the People's President.

Speaking at the burial of a relative in Kwishero constituency,Kakamega County,he stated that the President should let the Opposition proceed with the inauguration plan then later consider having dialogue with the team to maintain peace.

"We don't want the country to deteriorate into chaos because of confrontations between opposition supporters and security personnel deployed to stop the swearing-in of Mr Odinga and Mr Musyoka.

"Since President Kenyatta does not want to meet the opposition for dialogue, he should not send the police to Uhuru Park to stop the swearing-in ceremony. He should let Nasa proceed with swearing in. That way, we will have peace,” he stated.

In regard to the Cabinet appointments, The COTU secretary General stated that President Kenyatta should reserve the remaining slots in the cabinet for women and urged Parliament to vet the Cabinet nominees quickly so they can soon start work.

His message comes moments after Nairobi County police boss Japhet Koome warned Kenyans, the National Super Alliance (NASA) and any other group from holding an event at Uhuru Park on Tuesday.

Speaking during a media briefing, Koome noted that Uhuru Park was a no-go-zone adding that no group will be allowed at the venue.

The Police boss noted that he had not received any official communication informing him of any events planned for Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Raila Odinga team has maintained that it would swear in Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka at Uhuru Park.
