Jaramogi University Students Torch Club After Death of Colleague [VIDEO]

Jeramogi Oginga Odinga University students on Saturday torched down a local joint in protest of the death of a student who was killed during a fight that ensued on Friday evening.

Steve Owino Otombo who was in his third year of studying Agribusinesscolleague was killed after some of the students and bartenders engaged in a fight during a music show that occurred in Bondo town.

Bondo Deputy County Commissioner Richard Ojwang' stated that hell broke loose after a DJ competition at Dala-wa club turned chaotic.

He noted that the fight erupted when one team became aggrieved “after sensing they were losing the contest.”

“The group walked out in protest before they engaged in stone throwing, sparking the fight,” the DCC noted.

The University Vice Chancellor Prof Stephen Agong’ also confirmed the incident stating that some students from the university got into a fight with bartenders in Bondo town on Friday night and the third-year student was stabbed.

“As you know this is a police matter and they have already launched investigations into it. We shall give other details later. It is a clear case of murder,”

The Friday incident has sparked protests as tension remains high in Bondo town.

Outgoing Siaya County Commissioner Josephine Onunga also weughed in on the matter stating: "he was rushed to the Bondo Sub-County Hospital where he succumbed."

Meanwhile, at least 70 families were on Friday night left homeless after their homes were destroyed in a fire at Raila Village, Mugumoini Ward, Lang'ata.

According to Lang'ata Member of Parliament, Nixon Korir, there were no casualties in the incident.

"The firefighters arrived here in less than 20 minutes and were very swift to put out the fire. It would have been very bad,” Mr Korir stated while at the scene of the fire.
